Plain-language summary: Water Reminder works without an account. Core app data is stored locally on the device. Health Connect hydration access is optional and only used after permission. Anonymous Firebase diagnostics are optional and default to off.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Water Reminder handles information in the Android app published under package name com.shahab.waterreminder. Water Reminder is a general wellness hydration reminder app. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or disease-prevention guidance.

The app works without user accounts, login, or a developer-operated hydration backend.

2. Information stored on the device

Water Reminder stores app data locally on the user's device, including:

  • Hydration logs and related history.
  • Daily hydration goals and measurement preferences.
  • Reminder settings and notification preferences.
  • Theme, accessibility, onboarding, and app preferences.
  • Widget state needed to display hydration progress on the home screen.
  • Local export/import data when the user chooses those actions.

This local data is used to provide app functionality. The app does not require an account to use these features.

3. Health Connect data

Water Reminder integrates with Android Health Connect for hydration data only. The app may request permission to read and/or write hydration records, but only after the user explicitly chooses to connect Health Connect.

When permission is granted, Water Reminder may use Health Connect to:

  • Read hydration records from Health Connect.
  • Write hydration records logged in Water Reminder to Health Connect.
  • Store local sync metadata to avoid duplicate records.

Health data is not used for advertising, profiling, sale, or unrelated purposes. Water Reminder does not request unrelated health data types.

Learn more about Android Health Connect from the official Android documentation: Health Connect overview.

4. Optional analytics and diagnostics

Water Reminder uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. Anonymous diagnostics are optional and controlled by an in-app setting that defaults to off.

When diagnostics are enabled, Firebase may process information such as:

  • Basic app interaction events.
  • Screen names.
  • Crash reports and diagnostic information.
  • Device and app information needed for crash and reliability analysis.

Water Reminder does not intentionally include hydration amounts, hydration goals, Health Connect values, Health Connect record IDs, reminder schedules, exported files, or user-entered support messages in analytics events.

Firebase services are provided by Google. Learn more about Google's privacy practices in the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information: Firebase Privacy and Security.

5. Notifications

Water Reminder uses notifications for hydration reminders when enabled by the user. Notifications are used to remind the user to drink water and may be affected by Android settings, notification permissions, battery behavior, or device manufacturer behavior.

6. Data sharing

Water Reminder does not sell personal data.

The app may share or process limited information in these cases:

  • With Firebase, when optional diagnostics are enabled, for analytics and crash diagnostics. Firebase services are provided by Google.
  • With Android Health Connect, when the user grants permission, for hydration read/write sync.
  • With the user's email provider, if the user chooses to contact support by email.

Health data must not be used for advertising, profiling, or sale.

7. Data retention and deletion

Local app data remains on the device until the user deletes it in the app, clears app data through Android settings, or uninstalls the app. Exported files are controlled by the user.

Firebase retention is governed by Firebase settings and Google policies. Health Connect data retention is controlled by Android Health Connect and the user's device settings.

8. Security

Water Reminder uses platform storage and system protections where available. No app can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their devices and be careful with exported files or support emails that they choose to send.

9. Children's privacy

Water Reminder is not directed specifically at children. The app is intended as a general wellness utility. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided information through support contact, they can contact the developer.

10. International users

Water Reminder may be used by people in different countries. Firebase and other service providers may process diagnostic information in countries other than the user's country when optional diagnostics are enabled.

11. Future changes, including possible advertising

Water Reminder currently does not display advertisements and does not use AdMob. The app does not use health data for advertising, profiling, or sale.

If advertising, AdMob, or additional third-party SDKs are introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy and Google Play Console disclosures will be updated before those changes are enabled.

12. Open Source

Water Reminder is an open-source project. Source code is available at github.com/dev-shahab-web/water-reminder.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect app, legal, or platform changes. The updated date will be changed when the policy is revised.
